What is OwnWorking Life?

OwnWorking Life is a free, once a month-ish on-line publication aimed at people like you who are working on their own. At the moment this usually means homeworking.

It’s written by me Jane Anderson PhD. I’m a veteran homeworking own-worker with a career in personal-professional development and wellbeing as a researcher, practitioner and writer. I’ve been helping people feel better and work more effectively at home and work for over thirty years.

I’m still at it, own-working and homeworking full-time now, though for many years I did it on an ad hoc basis. My specialist area is the people-place relationship so I know what I’m talking about when it comes to getting the best out of the weird and wonderful settings own-workers find themselves in.

I’ve own-worked through several house renovations; in town and country; with frozen toes and sweltering brow; through regular electricity blackouts and mice running up and down inside the wall behind my laptop; through shingles and caring responsibilities; book deadlines and appalling bosses and hobbyist DIY neighbours who used to live in the downstairs flat at Pacific Heights. And then there was the difficult stuff.

But I really do know what the own-working life’s like, rolling alone with the punches and relishing the sheer contrast that own-working brings with it some days. If it’s possible to be an expert own-worker, I am one.

I write about the world of the own-worker as I find it. Usually it’s lighthearted stuff but I have a bit of a rant from time to time. It’s always short and to the point.

Join me in my on-going experience. We can own-work together.

Don’t be isolated. Become part of a slewed and scattered; daring, desperate and independent own-working homeworking community of people who are running this gauntlet alone.

Whether you’re own-working temporarily or you’re in for the long haul; whether it’s by choice or the situation’s been imposed on you; whether you’re employed or sole trader; agile, remote or simply rusticating for a while; working from the corner of the kitchen table, under the stairs, perched over the ironing board or down in the shed - everybody’s welcome.
